Hotel The Vine - A tribute to Madeira's tradition, with an eye toward the future

Our Ambassador’s Bright Journey

With views of the bay from the rooftop pool, Hotel Vine is a mix of design, technology and tradition. A place that aims to pay homage to the island of Madeira and one of its products of excellence, wine, thanks to the many purple-colored furnishing elements by local designer Nini Andrade Silva.

Where it is located

The hotel is in the western part of the historic center of Funchal on Madeira Island, Portugal. It is the somewhat more modern part of town but still in a great location to get around on foot and thus easily explore Funchal.

Design and mood

Created by architects Ricardo Bofill and João Francisco Caires and furnished by interior designer Nini Andrade Silva, The Vine is a tribute to one of Madeira’s most precious products, the grapevine. Designer Nini Andrade Silva wanted to represent in the hotel’s interior her passion for the island’s wine, adding full-bodied warmth to the ultra-modern building. Each of the hotel’s four floors represents a different season in the life cycle of the grape.

Room style

57 guest rooms (some suitable for people with reduced mobility), 17 junior suites and five suites. Contemporary style in design and furnishings. Colors are muted, from pale greens reminiscent of spring to orange for autumn. Very beautiful are the volcanic stone slabs in the bathroom.

The common areas

A spa, Jacuzzi, terrace with 360-degree views, panoramic infinity pool, two restaurants (the UVA and Terra lounge), two bars, and a fitness center. Also complementing the presence is a conference room, the Calhau room. Guests are invited to experience their stay at The Vine Hotel by following the five senses: see, hear, touch, smell, and taste.

Services

The food and wine experience are at the heart of the concept of hospitality experienced here. It is possible to participate in tours led by The Vine’s chef to the local market as well as take part in cooking lessons.
The spa offers wine therapy treatments, including a red wine bath. The rooftop pool is heated so can be used in all seasons.

Technology experience

Everything is controlled through a centralized system that manages room lighting and air conditioning systems. It is accessed by key card to be inserted into the cardholder. All lights are automatically turned on as you enter the room as well as turned off as you leave. There is a button on the bedside table for globally turning off the lights as well as for lowering/raising the shades. There is a sensor at the foot of the bed that turns on a courtesy light if you wake up during the night.
The Smart TV features a personalized welcome message when it is turned on. Navigation sections include hotel information, TV entertainment, hotel restaurant and bar information, spa information, and promotions.

Eco-sustainability

The hotel takes advantage of a lighting and electrical system optimization system while also offering a good guest experience in managing on/off lights, blackouts, and heating.
Water is offered in glass bottles, more specifically reusable glass water bottles. The water used to fill the bottles is only local to reduce the environmental impact caused by transportation.
